ABOUT Add to the mix a triple threat of natural beauty, consummate vocals and the splendid songwriting of former Warner Brothers Records recording artist Kristy Starling; valedictorian, high-school classmate, and 'kick-butt' songwriter and singer, Lael Louthan, and soulful, funky, Aubree Huffman (who married the drummer!) and you have the uniqueness that reflects their unusual name, Warr Acres—Warr Acres, meaning the community in Oklahoma City in which Chris' dad, Mark Crow, is the pastor of Victory Church and where each of these talented musicians and singers also lead worship at each of the weekly worship experiences. Although tied together as friends, each of these individuals bring their own style and zest in music and songwriting which accounts for the diversity of sound that is Warr Acres. Much of the pop-infused vibe that is heard in Warr Acres' current supply of indefectable songs is due to younger Crow: Joseph, and his sick, hip-hop flavored beats. Warr Acres, although a new band, has built on the foundation laid by its church worship team, VMusic, in it's six full length albums of original worship music (including 2 in Spanish), which also featured lead vocals by Kristy Starling and excellent contributions by Chris, Jaron, and Matt including songwriting, production, mixing, vocal and instrumental recording credits. As most interesting collaborations start with a story, Warr Acres is no exception; for the band finds it's roots in a life-changing healing story in which Pastor's wife, Jennifer Crow was healed of depression and multiple physical ailments that precipitated her song-writing and founding of the worship ministry VMusic. VMusic, one of the most popular Christian music groups on an independent label garnered six # 1 hits on Indie Christian radio for 2008 through 2010, was featured twice on Worship Leader magazine's Song Discovery CD, and was nominated for the Premios Arpa Awards in Mexico City in 2010 and the Dove Awards in 2011. With the new group comes new relationships and Warr Acres was privileged to sign a record deal in 2011 with Dream Records, a division of Universal Music Christian Group. Warr Acres' songs as evidenced by their lyrics and music are inspired by the life and ministry of their church, Victory Church, and reflect their passion and mission to motivate themselves and others to not just live a life of reflective, introspective faith, but an active faith which rolls up it's sleeves to help the hurting and disenfranchised in tangible ways. Social justice is not just a trendy movement for this band to tout as a trophy, but is a call to action, to sound an alarm for the hurting. The band has been involved on the ground in orphanages in Haiti and the formation of a human trafficking rescue organization in Lesotho, Africa called the Beautiful Dream Society. Although Warr Acres' opening story is not nearly ready for their happy ending, they are excited about their energetic, pop/rock, ambient, engaging, worship music and their dynamic message that will fill the next chapters of this band's adventures |
